It is neornithine, the only surviving clade during K-Pg . beside the wonderchicken, there are only a few neornithes fossils during Cretaceous time such as vegavis and most neornithes most likely diverse after K-Pg extinction to fill the empty niches left by other dinosaurs.
Neornithes are the only bird group without any teeth and also they have a distinguish reduce maxilla and relatively large premaxilla. When you check out Dan's earlier paper in 2018, you can see that they are the only non-tree living birds during Cretaceous and possibly it is the reason why they survival the mass extinction while the other dinosaur perished
